In the everlasting spirit of copycatting, I wrote a little D’ni calculator widget. Unlike this calculator, it’s input is entirely in Arabic. However, unlike that calculator, it will display non-integer D’ni numbers. The system is the natural extension of the D’ni numbering system, where [0].[1] is 1/25, rather than 1/10. This makes certain values irrational, such as 0.5, which is [0].[12][12] repeating…

I call it… “the D’nimal point” :P Working with base 25 has been interesting.

It is currently not known how the D’ni actually handled fractional values. From what we have seen so far, they generally simply truncated their numbers, and when greater accuracy was required, repeatedly multiplied by 25 and used the resulting measure as a new scale. (The ‘units’ found in Minkata are in fact 1/25 of a span) This is a bit like using meters and truncating all the time, then switching to decimeters, centimeters, and millimeters respectively as more accuracy is needed.

Note that, currently, you must have ‘dnifont’ installed to view my calculator correctly.

so today, after showing my KIcoord utility to Arrhae, I got off my ass and updated it to support IE. :D It still uses all .png images, so IE6 will never render it perfectly, but it’s completely functional now.

Anyway, I uploaded the new html file, but it got a different url because it is August now. I would fix this, but my ability to edit the kicoord_utility template has been removed. sooo, the mapper will be down until Izy finds this.

as a note, it would be preferable to simply move the new file back into the ’07’ directory so that the relative paths stay the same. <.<
