Added SSL to Site

Recorded in: News Journal,Site News — Isyldar @ 1:37 pm Cavern Time

Hey folks!

I’ve just finished adding SSL Encryption to our site to add that extra layer of security that’s going up everywhere on the internet these days. This will help ensure that passwords are encrypted when submitting them across the internet, among other things. With the way this is set up, you may encounter security warnings on older browsers (like IE on Win XP). Unfortunately there isn’t much to be done about that. (Get a newer / better browser perhaps?) :)

Cheers,

Isyldar

Moved Providers & Updated Font

Recorded in: Site News — Isyldar @ 11:21 am Cavern Time

Over the past day, we’ve moved hosting providers for the site, and added an upgrade to the fonts on the site that will now show you the D’ni script whenever you hover over a link! This was something we had enabled long ago, so long as you already had the font installed. Now you don’t have to. :)

Our apologies for any inconvenience that may have come up as a result of moving the site the last 24 hours or so. Things were something of a mess.

Cheers,

Izy

User Registration Problems

Recorded in: News Journal,Site News — Isyldar @ 9:40 pm Cavern Time

матрациShorah Everyone,

We’ve had a slight issue with user registrations over the past few weeks that I’ve finally been able to rectify. Unfortunately, as a result, all of those registration requests which were submitted had to be deleted in order to correct the problem. So, if you attempted to sign up for an account this month, and either never received your verification e-mail, or just plain had an issue with registering, please give it a try once more.

If you still can’t get through, please, by all means, drop me an e-mail to isyldar@uruexploration.net, and I will correct any problems manually. My sincere apologies for any inconvenience that may have been caused.

Shorah,

Isyldar

Sidebar Tools Tweak

Recorded in: Site News — Isyldar @ 12:14 pm Cavern Time

Just a head’s up for all the new users, and some of the old ones too! I added a link to The Dashboard on the sidebar, so it’d be easier for you to get to the behind-the-scenes tools for the site.

Shorah,

New Features!

Recorded in: News Journal,Site News — Isyldar @ 9:27 pm Cavern Time

I have long wanted to have more flexibility in the site for its various members; allowing everyone to have their own Imager section, and to allow them to create their own Texts, and even to add pages to Texts that already exist. Well, now that’s possible. To create an Imager (or Imagers!), you can use the ‘Write Page’ tool and the D’ni Imager template to create 1 or more Imagers and upload your photos to the site.

Also, if you’d like to add new pages to the texts that we’ve got set up here, feel welcome to do so! You can also create your own for various topics that may not already have been covered.

Of course, there’s going to be some moderation, and if something is not appropriate for the site, the Admins are going to be able to review and pull it if necessary. However, with the crew that we’ve got here, I’m fairly confident that won’t be an issue.

Cheers,

Izy

Site Imagers

Recorded in: Site News — Isyldar @ 12:01 pm Cavern Time

My apologies, but the site’s Imagers are temporarily offline for maintenance. The hope is to be able to shore up the code so that these can be released for everyone to use to post their own images. :)

Pruning Links

Recorded in: Site News — Isyldar @ 11:02 am Cavern Time

Hey All,

Just a note that I’ve had to go through the site and disable a few links just to clean things up. I removed links in the sidebar to a few places like CCN Central, and the URU Guilds page. If you come across any others that need to be taken down, or updated, let me know either by email (isyldar@uruexploration.net), or by commenting on this post.

Cheers,

Izy

New Registration Process

Recorded in: Site News — Isyldar @ 8:12 pm Cavern Time

Shorah Everyone,

This is just an update for anyone who’s interested, or referring anyone to register for the site. I’ve added a few things to save getting registration-spam coming in on the site. (Currently I get about 5 of these fake account registrations a day.)

This new process includes a more comprehensive registration form, which requires the usual username, email address, and a first and last name for the registrant. (These can be the first and last name of your avatar instead of your own name if you like.) It’s also got one of those captcha widgets to prevent the automated scripts, or help prevent the automated scripts from filling up my inbox with registrations. :)

Once the user registers, they’ll get a welcome email, requiring them to confirm their registration, and send myself, or Nadnerb an email. After that’s done, we can get the new member’s Journal set up and account activated, and we’re off to the races!

On the registration form, I’ve also added an invitation code field, that if you’re inviting people to the site, can be used. (Just send me an email to get an invitation code that your invitee can use.)

If anyone has questions, comments, or concerns, just let me know as usual.

Cheers,

Izy

Upgrade to WP_2.7

Recorded in: Site News — Isyldar @ 11:21 am Cavern Time

Hey folks!

This is just a “head’s up” to let you know that another back-end upgrade has taken place. With the release of WordPress 2.7, it seemed time again to do a little maintenance on the site. So, if any of you ran into the maintenance-mode screen this morning, my apologies.

However, the good news is that we have a fancy new Dashboard to work with, along with several upgraded plug-ins that should make everything run just that much smoother.

Cheers,

Izy
