Myst 25th Anniversary Kickstarter

Recorded in: Izy's Journal,News Journal,Site News — Isyldar @ 6:17 pm Cavern Time

It has been a very long time since last I visited The Cavern, or Myst island, or Riven, Exile, K’veer, and so many more Ages…and it looks like we will all get to visit them again soon! Cyan is rolling out the Writers to dust off the Ages, spruce things up, and provide us some new amazing memorabilia. I mean, who doesn’t want their own MYST book?!?!?!?!

Here’s the link to the Kickstarter page. They’ve still got a few weeks to go before the campaign ends; but you’re going to want to check this out sooner than later!

Returning: Again

Recorded in: Izy's Journal,News Journal — Isyldar @ 3:02 am Cavern Time

икона за подаръкI have caught wind of changes in the Cavern, small though they may be, and decided, once again to venture down to D’ni. It has been so very long since my last visit here. Longer than I had realized it would seem. Nobody has visited Nadnerb’s Bevin since last I did in September of 2010. Not even the man, Nadnerb himself. The place has a feel of abandonment about it. Kind of depressing really.

There are a few other explorers in the Cavern, mostly in Ae’gura, but in a few of the other Bevins as well, according to the Nexus display. I came in search of the changes though, so I didn’t spend much time socializing. Where are they?

It would seem that I neglected to finish Gahreesen whilst I was here last. Something that I must rectify. Hopefully I remembered to bring my notebooks from previous visits. I’ll need them to complete the cycle.

Ah, Gahreesen; despite the stark, military feel to the place, I absolutely love the outdoors here. I’ve read the notes that say the wilderness is something to be avoided, given the creatures that have been witnessed in it, but still…I long for the day when I could explore those woods. Once again, I am waiting atop the first building, for the rotations to align. This jump is always a bit scary. I shall have to use the cloth on the landing to ensure I can come back to the jump point in case I fall.

It took 3 jumps this time. 3! I’m definitely out of practice, if not out of shape. I’m going to have to watch myself, lest I grow careless and do something really stupid. Relto book in-hand, at all times. Check. I must remember to visit Eder Delin before I return to the Surface.

I am so tired, yet still, for all my wanderings, I have neither completed Gahreesen, nor have I found the new Ages that I had heard about. Perhaps they’ve been hidden once more. Sigh. I shall look a little longer before I head back. I did manage to get quite a few good photos in Gahreesen tonight though. That alone, I suppose, made the trip worth it.

Finally, I’ve found one of the Hoods they were talking about: The Fun House. Doesn’t look like it’s seeing much fun at the moment, but it’s getting a few visitors to say the least.

Today’s was a good visit. It’d be nice to see a few more of the old gang return to the Cavern for a game of Heek and some exploration; but I expect it to be a long time in coming if it ever does.

For now, I will myself return to the Surface, and perhaps get some sleep. I’ve completed the primary Ages, and returned the Pillars at the very least. More work remains to be done at a later date, such as the Museum Ages and Ahnonay. But, until then…..

User Registration Problems

Recorded in: News Journal,Site News — Isyldar @ 9:40 pm Cavern Time

матрациShorah Everyone,

We’ve had a slight issue with user registrations over the past few weeks that I’ve finally been able to rectify. Unfortunately, as a result, all of those registration requests which were submitted had to be deleted in order to correct the problem. So, if you attempted to sign up for an account this month, and either never received your verification e-mail, or just plain had an issue with registering, please give it a try once more.

If you still can’t get through, please, by all means, drop me an e-mail to isyldar@uruexploration.net, and I will correct any problems manually. My sincere apologies for any inconvenience that may have been caused.

New Features!

Recorded in: News Journal,Site News — Isyldar @ 9:27 pm Cavern Time

I have long wanted to have more flexibility in the site for its various members; allowing everyone to have their own Imager section, and to allow them to create their own Texts, and even to add pages to Texts that already exist. Well, now that’s possible. To create an Imager (or Imagers!), you can use the ‘Write Page’ tool and the D’ni Imager template to create 1 or more Imagers and upload your photos to the site.

Also, if you’d like to add new pages to the texts that we’ve got set up here, feel welcome to do so! You can also create your own for various topics that may not already have been covered.

Of course, there’s going to be some moderation, and if something is not appropriate for the site, the Admins are going to be able to review and pull it if necessary. However, with the crew that we’ve got here, I’m fairly confident that won’t be an issue.

A Busy Evening

Recorded in: Izy's Journal,News Journal — Isyldar @ 3:35 am Cavern Time

Well, it was time to return to the Cavern in force. With the path to D’ni wide open, Explorers have been returning in droves. I’m not quite sure that the DRC knew what to expect when they opened it up again. I was helping out a few friends set up new KI’s tonight, and I’m of the impression that either the lattice is over-worked, reserving mass amounts of #s, or there are enough Explorers in the cavern to start a very large surface-sized city, let alone re-populate D’ni.

The Cavern has been open for approximately a week (perhaps a day or two longer), and already, the KI #s are above 1 million! I honestly can’t remember if they ever hit that count when the Cavern was open last time. Further to that, I was helping set up the new Canadian’s Bevin with J’naem, who returned to D’ni this evening as well, and the KI#s jumped thousands within minutes. (This is partly what leads to my borked Lattice, or reserved #s theory.)

At any rate, there are a lot of people in D’ni these days, and it is great getting to run into old friends, and even new ones!

Nadnerb and I were able to attend an Eder Delin run courtesy of the D’ni Museum of Art Bevin. It took us quite a while to get the door open the first time. Nad’s theory is that with so many cooks in the kitchen, it was hard to communicate. We were also trying to teach a new Door Caller how to do the job, and that definitely contributed to the time it took us to get it working the first time. (Including having everyone leave the Age and come back in when we thought the door had stopped working.)

Following the first success, we had Medic get stuck behind the door, and Nad had to bring me up to speed on the cloths so that we could open the door with just the two of us and get Medic out of there. It took us a few tries, as I kept getting things mixed up, but we succeeded. :)

Along the way, Lagrider stopped in, and was surprised to see the door opened with such a technique as the one Nad taught me, so we ran the door on 3 people to show him how it was done. That also took us a couple tries, though only a couple. :)

I think we may need to put together some articles on the techniques of running Eder Tsogal and Eder Delin on less than a full crew of people. And, based on tonight’s performance with the large group, we may yet need to put something together on the standard practice for a run too. :) Either way, I don’t think we have any notes posted for either Delin or Tsogal at this point. It’s worth looking into.

Wow, there was so much accomplished tonight.

Nad and I proceeded to run through Eder Gira and Kemo following Delin. I hadn’t yet retrieved my pillar for the Ages. Along the way, Nad discovered that it was possible to walk across the gap between the land and area behind the waterfall in Gira on just 1 basket. It saved us having to retrieve the second one; but I’ll let him post about hte technique. He understands more of what he did than I do, as usual.

Recorded in: Nad's Journal,News Journal — Nadnerb @ 2:07 am Cavern Time

It seems that in the time since the last cavern opening, the Lattice somehow got reset. Perhaps power failed at some point, clearing it’s memory. Anyway, my new KI number is 23247. I’ve spent some time bringing stuff back to my Relto, running the Eder Delin and Eder Tsogal doors with Gylippus and Elatine, who finally got back into the cavern after some difficulties with transportation. Familiar names filled the city, and there was much buzz.

Today, I neared completion of my collection of stuff. Only the Minkata wedge remains to be retaken. Ironically, the Minkata sparklie remains also, but cannot be collected for some reason unknown. I spent a good deal of time in Ahnonay as well, helping Elatine understand the age, hosted a good sized (5) group in my Relto for a Fissure opening, which was quite fun, and played around in Jalak a bit with Jeff.

The pod portal calculator has been updated with new times and should be accurate to the minute, though at the moment there appears to be a timezone issue that causes some people to get a countdown exactly an hour off. Hopefully I’ll find the time to look into this soon.

Recorded in: Izy's Journal,News Journal — Isyldar @ 1:48 pm Cavern Time

I was able to make it to the Cavern today. Or at least as close to it as Bevin. The old hoods aren’t present anymore, but are quickly being set up again by Explorers eager to resume ops in D’ni.

While I was there I was able to hook up with Nadnerb in Eder Tsogal, after a quick trip to Gahreesen to grab a new KI of course. It was great to see the old sights and sounds again, and breathe in the air of a totally different world. Refreshing in ways untold to those of us stuck in the grips of deep winter on the surface.

At any rate, I must away for now. The Cavern has temporarily closed up while preparations are made to further handle the onslaught of Explorers heading for the city. It will be good to go back again once they’re ready.

The Cavern Opens!

Recorded in: Izy's Journal,News Journal — Isyldar @ 10:28 pm Cavern Time

It has been a long 2 years since last I was able to visit the Cavern with other Explorers, and the wait is now over. D’ni is open, and the passages to it are crowded with those rushing to return to its depths and reconnect with old friends in corridors well known.

I myself am awaiting the chance to enter with great anticipation. Word came to me from Nadnerb that we were able to return, and now its just a matter of hours before I will be able to join the rest of the Explorers in the ancient tunnels.

I have some new tools with me this time for keeping these journals updated. Automatic updates, both to and from my KI will allow for eveb more info to flow out onto these pages.

I wonder how much has changed down there, if anything, and whether or not the old hood is still accessible…not likely, but rebuilding isn’t a concern. It’s something our community does well. Too bad I’ll have to build up those Heek points again though…

Cyan plans to Open-Source Uru

Recorded in: Nad's Journal,News Journal — Nadnerb @ 1:21 am Cavern Time

The mysterious something in the works has been revealed. According to the spokesman review, Cyan Worlds will be putting the future of Uru further into the hands of it’s fans than previously intended, by releasing the source to the game servers, client, and tools, (Weren’t they going to do that to some extent under the MORE plan?) as well as run a dataserver serving the Myst Online content. The difference appears to be that they will not be actually hosting the game servers themselves, but will be allowing the fans to take control of the indvidual servers much as they did during Until Uru, except this time possibly with the ability to further develop the system and fix bugs.

Discussion of this recent development has begun to accumulate in the various forums, and the news has appeared in a few other places as well.

Personally, I remain somewhat skeptical, as I don’t see exactly how this would require less work on Cyan’s part than MORE did. However, this is certainly a hopeful development.
